Cranberry Moss (Local Nature Reserve) is a quiet semi natural local green space oasis situated to the west of Alsager centre. The area is approximately 2.35 hectares of open public space accessed from three entrances. Originally an old peat bog area connected in older times to nearby White Moss and Oakhanger Moss this area once formed one of many moss land areas typical of this part of Cheshire. The once open area features a open access central pond, is now surrounded by meadow and an assortment of mostly deciduous trees, bushes and various flora. Urban development has now surrounded Cranberry Moss on all sides making it almost a "walled area" completely enclosed hidden by trees from the outside perimeters. The area is criss crossed by many pleasant woodland paths and walkways as well as having three open meadow grassland areas also enclosed within the surrounding tree line. There is an abundant assortment of insects, wild birds, squirrels, and water foul mostly Moorhen as well as an array of aquatic and wetland vegitation such as Yellow Water Iris, Lillies and Bullrushes to name a few. There is also a small separately enclosed safe children's play area adjacent to Cranberry Moss located by a small tarmac car park area on Dickinson Way ST7 2AY. Well worth a visit.
